Welcome Back!!

Hi everyone and welcome back!! I hope you all had an enjoyable summer break. In this semester we will continue studying using "Impact Conversation 2", and will be studying units from the second half of the book (hopefully we can cover units 9, 10, 12, 14 and 16). If there are any units that you would particularly like to study, please let me know - either to this blog, or by email, or in class.

For homework this week, in addition to your "Language Awareness" homework, I'd like you to share with us what you did during your summer holiday. What did you get up to? What was the most enjoyable part of your holiday? What was the worst part of your holiday? I'd like to hear all about it, so please write about 150 words about your summer vacation.

Oh, by the way... please leave a comment to the person who wrote before you. And of course, try to read everyone's blog comments.

I guess I'd better tell you about my summer too. Well, as you all know, this August/September I took 32 students to study in Brisbane, Australia for 1 month. This was a very interesting and enjoyable experience for me, because I got to know many Shidai students. They were all very good and interesting students, so this was actually a very nice experience for me. Also, it was good because I got to spend 1 month in Australia, my home country. I could meet my family, friends, old teachers, and also spend time in the university which I graduated from. The only bad thing about my summer was that it was too short!!!

Anyway, that's enough from me. Let's hear from you!!

Cheers,
Kris

  1. Hi this is Tomohiro

During the summer vacation, I read books as many as possible; about 13 or 14. I especially love horror one, so books I mainly read are almost all about horror, and now I'm looking for a new one to read, so if you have any reconmendation please let me know, of course it is okay the book is except horror.
And I guess you can imagine what is my bad thing of my summer. My eyes have got weaker; 0,07 to 0,03! I was terriblly shocked when the doctor told me the number.
By the way, I found a new hobby, composing a story, but it is still not good enough to read.
Kris, I'm glad to hear you spent nice time in Australia and I felt I should have been to Australia this summer. Oh, yeah, very nice and good time is always passing by too early.
I hope all of my friends have spent a nice time this summer vacation.

  2. Hello. This is Tohma.

I heard that my friends have had good time during summer vacation.
Now I regret staying in Shimonoseki for a long time without going back to Hiroshima.
I had bad time during my summer vacation...
Because I haven't studied English at all. So, now it's hard to speak or understand English for me...
The only thing I have done during vacation is training. I was always working out for "Shimonoseki Kaikyo marathon". After the workout, I was always tired and then sleeping.
So, to change my flaccid mind, I'll try studying English again and make it through the finish line at "Shimonoseki Kaikyo marathon"!!

  3. Hi,this is Daiki.I would like to tell you what I did during my summer holiday.

Honesty, there is noting that I did in particular, but if you ask me,I bought replicas of a uniform of Michel Owen.He is a soccer player, who has been called Wonder Boy since the France World Cup in 1998.
I played soccer in the park near my house, wearing the uniform, and I felt as if I were him.Unfortunetely,he often get injures recently,so he is less popular than he used to be.However,I belive that he will overcome his difficulty, and play an important role in his team.
I am so looking foward to see him reaching many goals in the South Aflica World Cup in 2010.
Anyway this is the one that I did during my summer holiday.

  4. Hi guys!!

you know, I had stayed in Brisbane, Australia for 1 month.
During my stay, the most enjoyable thing was sightseeing. I went to many places like beach or rainforest and saw many wild animals there. To be honest, I really wanted to visit Uluru which we talked about last semester, but I actually couldn't. This is because it costs loads of money to get there.
I also enjoyed learning English at UQ. UQ teachers taught us a lot, not only English but also aboriginal culture.
This is a precious experience for me because I met the locals and had a great time with them.
I wish I could have stayed much longer to learn English more there and make friends.
I want to go to Australia again.

Now, I'm not yet sure if I could improve my English through this study tour.
However, I can say that I could broden my horizons and get more interested in learning about foreign countries.

  5. Hi,this is Terumi.

My most impressive thing during this summer is staying in a camp for practice Aikido.
We went on a 4 day camp to Fukuoka, and first day we had a barbecue and fireworks. It was very fun, but second and third day were hell.
We did running, dash, muscle training at the beach in the early morning yet the sun rise. After we had breakfast, practiced Aikido during the day, and in the night, we sat up straight for an hour!! This was the hardest menu for me…

Because of hard practice , one member was carried by ambulance for heat injury. And my friend did not feel well, so got home.

As time went by, the number of club member became small. This is just like “survival” and I came back safe from the camp!!

  6. Hi!!
I'm Mayumi Matsumoto. I'd like to introduce about my summer vacation.

In this summer vacation I did some part-time jobs a cram school, a hall for ceremonies and hotel almost everyday. One reason is that I wanted to brush up the service for customers. And the second reason is that I want to earn some money to go to foreign country.
I was busy but I could know the pleasure of contacting with a lot of people. So I enjoyed and had a very good time in this summer vacation.

However I regret not studying English at all. Now it is very hard for me to hear and talk English in the Practical English class. I 'd like to hang on both studing and doing part-time jobs from this semester.

  7. Hi, this is Yuu Satou.

It was the very busy days in this summer vacation for me. I went a lot of places.

During August, I went to the Beijing to study Chinese. China is a fantstic and crazy country!! You should go there. The thing I surprise most was that Chinese eat anything. In a roadside stand, They sell cicada, starfish, scorpion, sea horse and the larva of beetle(many other!) to edible!! I didn't ate but my friends ate it...

After return to Japan, I went to Shinjuku, Yokohama, Hakone, Kamakura, and Yonezawa. I took a trip many place and met my family and many my friends again. One of my junior high school's friend is married with a kids. I was amazed by know it.

I went back Shimonoseki and participated in environment GP camp at Tokuchi. I was a presenter about conserve natural resources.

I had a good summer vacation. Everyone's vacation were sounds good, too.

  8. I'm sorry. I forgot to leave a comment to Daiki.

I don't know much about soccer, but I think it’s a good idea to buy the uniform.
I hope that you will keep practicing soccer.

  9. I have three things to tell you about Summer vacation.

First of all,I had a coming-of-age ceremony on 14th August.I could see a lot of my frends there. When I told it to my friends, most of them look like feeling strange. So I had to explain why it hold in Summer, everytime they ask to me. My home town had already merged with Hamada city, but our mayer decided to continue that ivent because it is very traditional.

Secondly,I worked as a announcer while election of the House of Representatives. When our candidate,Shinzo Abe,won the election,I felt sooooooooo relieved and happy!!!!!I appriciate to all concerned to let me work as that.

Finally,I went to fihing with my friends in Silver Week.We caught more than 100 house mackerels!!!! However,it took a long to clean and eat them because my friends didn't bring them back.I cook house mackerels pickled in vinegar and something, called NANBANZUKE.It tasted so nice, but I was sick of it about three days after that I cooked it.100 fish are too much to eat alone!

Anyway,I could have precious experiences in this Summer vacation.

All guys in this class also had interesting experinces respectively.Their coments are so interesting!

  10. Hello.This is Yoko.
Congraduation,Toru! When it was last year, we hold a union.I could meet a lot of friends. When I read your blog, a good memory rushed into my heart.

Anyway, I want to talk about my summer vacation. You know, I have been to Australia with Kris. I went to UQ-ICTE. I am very happy to go there.Because in the campus I met a friend who is my classmate at the elementary school. I was very surprised :0
I stayed with a hostfamily. My host-parents are very young! They are 26-year-old. It is the same with my elder brother. They are very tough. So, when I was free, they went out with me. Almost all day, they invited their friends at their house, so I can meet with a lot of people who have another nationality;Australia,New Zealand,Singapore, Malasia... I think it is very good for me. Because they cannot understand Japanese. But, they want to learn Japanese culture from me, and I want to talk a lot with them. I had to speak English a lot. It helps me to learn speaking English.
During my stay in Australia, I could meet with my friend's host family. To meet with other hostfamily, I can find my good point(?) of my host family.

I want to go to UQ as an exchange student, and I want to meet with all people I met again.

But, I had a trouble in Australia... only one.
There are a lot of insects and something bite on my feet.

I do miss my hostfamily and UQ.....
I have to be working hard to get readjusted to life in Japan...

  11. Hihi
    Masayoshi

I am very very sorry not to attend your last class because anoter task. But I promise I was not sleeping then.

My long summer break was soso.

I and my friends went on a three-day trip to Tokyo by car .
We stopped at the railroad museum in Oomiya on the way to Tokyo .
There are a lot of historic trains , simulation games , miniature
    trains and so on .
The museum was much more interesting than I had expected .
Since going there , we liked trains .
In Tokyo , whenever we took a train , we always sat at the front of
the train , and enjoyed watching the train being driven .

The hotel charges are usually expensive in Tokyo , but this time we
stayed for a special price , and the highway fares was 1000 yen .
    I'm glad I saved money .

By the way my English sense is lower and lower recently.
In autumn semester I must study hander and use more high level expressions.
