Class Video Project: Japan - A Travel Guide

Hi everyone,

Our class - the 2009 special 2nd year practical English class - recently embarked on a short video project. In only two classes they created a video introducing Japan to potential visitors. If you have the time, please check out their movie and provide some comments. We'd also like to know, after watching the movie, which city are you most interested in visiting: Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima or Shimonoseki.

We're looking forward to reading your comments. If you want to see this movie on a bigger screen, please go to www.shimonoseki-cu.ac.jp/~sullivan

  1. I appreciate the effort. I think you guys have done a great job. It seems very useful and also information on cities was very interesting.

On the other hand, understandablity of the video was pretty fair. I think that pronounciation was quite alright.

Just a remark, Kaikyokan is not really near to hinoyama:) I hope other information was correct since I would be planning my journey according to it;)

Last but not least, I love the ending theme. And also your respect to Google! :)

Keep up with the good work,

  2. Well, I enjoyed watching that - good work, everyone! Sorry I'm late with my comments, but here's a few thoughts.

It was really easy to understand everyone, and the descriptions and information was nice and clear. EXCEPT - sometimes it was a little difficult to catch the Japanese names or expressions you used. When giving a Japanese name, sometimes the speakers would say it very quickly - it's best to give the names slowly and clearly, as listeners may not b familiar with them.

What else...I think if you're in Tokyo, you should visit Shinjuku and Shibuya, as they have their own unique atmosphere. Also, they often feature in foreign reports of Japan, so it's good to actually experience them, just to get a feel for what Tokyo can be like. They can be tiring places to go, though!

In Kyoto, where can we find Kaiseki ryori? It would be good to give more information about that, if possible. Also, I would suggest that a ryokan is a better place to stay than a Western-style hotel in Kyoto; it fits with the atmosphere better. I can recommend a good place, too!

When one of my brothers was visiting me in Shimonoseki, we tried to take the ropeway up to Hinoyama, but it was closed! It might have been good to include information about which days things like that are open.

I liked your comment about Kris's smile. Don't make her mad, though, that's a scary sight.

I think from the video the place I'd like to see the most is Hiroshima. That's because I love oysters, and okonomiyaki is pretty good, too—right, Masayoshi? And it sounds like Hiroshima would be more of a relaxed place than Kyoto or Tokyo. Anyway, you do a good job of illustrating good points of each place, so once again, well done!
